Phase II Focus
Phase II will focus on internal policy requirements
and other statutory compliance obligations relative to personally identifiable information. It is expected that many of the improvements resulting from Phase I will greatly enhance the privacy and security of institutional information and the information about Penn State students, staff, faculty, and other individuals.
The IPAS Team is comprised of three individuals; one project manager, one senior network analyst and one project technical coordinator. These individuals were recruited from various areas at Penn State and compliment one another in their areas of expertise. Click here to meet the IPAS Team members.
The overall IPAS initiative will greatly enhance the privacy and security of institutional information and the information about Penn State students, staff, faculty and other individuals. Project Plan Summary, Phase II.
Who this affects
As the number of laptop thefts and other computer systems intrusions continue to rise, the greater the need to protect personal and institutional information. Security measures need to be implemented by staff or faculty working with personally identifiable information to help reduce the risk of a data breach. Some individuals are not aware of the sensitivity of the information to which they have access, nor of the consequences. It is important that all staff have the knowledge to identify the type of information they are handling so they can take the necessary precautions and implement the security measures required to protect this information.
The Data Classification Scheme was developed to define the privacy and security measures necessary when handling personally identifiable and other sensitive information.
